Congratulations on the birth of your baby! This new chapter comes with joy, learning, and a few adjustments. As your body recovers and your baby begins their journey in the world, postnatal care is essential — not just for your newborn, but for you as well.
At THT HMO, our support doesn't stop at delivery. We’re here to guide you through your recovery, provide expert advice, and ensure both mother and baby receive the care and attention needed in the weeks ahead.
What to Expect After Delivery
The postnatal (or postpartum) phase begins immediately after childbirth and lasts up to six weeks (42 days). During this period, your body undergoes significant changes — physically, emotionally, and hormonally — while your baby also starts their schedule of immunizations and health checkups.

Postnatal Care for You and Baby
Your plan includes access to postnatal check-ups for both you and your newborn. These visits help monitor:
- Your physical recovery (e.g., uterine shrinkage, wound healing)
- Emotional well-being (screening for postpartum depression or anxiety)
- Baby’s growth, weight gain, and feeding habits
- Early detection of jaundice or other newborn conditions

Your Baby’s Vaccination Schedule
Immunization is one of the most critical aspects of infant health. Your baby’s vaccinations will begin at birth and continue according to the national immunization schedule. Here's a helpful summary:
At Birth:
- BCG (Tuberculosis)
- OPV 0 (Oral Polio Vaccine)
At 6, 10, and 14 Weeks:
- OPV (Polio)
- Pentavalent (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Hib, Hepatitis B)
- PCV (Pneumococcal)
- Rota (Rotavirus)
At 9 Months:
- MCV (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- Yellow Fever
At 18 Months:
- MCV (Booster)
- Yellow Fever (Booster)
Vitamin A: Every 6 months starting from 6 months of age
Tetanus Toxoid for Mothers (TT):
- 1st dose during pregnancy
- 2nd dose 4 weeks later
- 3rd dose 6 months after the second
Speak to your healthcare provider for your child’s personalized vaccination calendar. It's best to keep a physical or digital copy to track each milestone.

Breastfeeding and Nutrition Tips
Breastfeeding plays a major role in your baby’s immunity and growth — and it also helps your body recover. While natural, breastfeeding can be challenging at first. Here are a few foundational tips:
- Start Early: Begin breastfeeding within the first hour after birth to stimulate milk production and bonding.
- Feed on Demand: Newborns typically feed every 2 to 3 hours. Watch for hunger cues like rooting, sucking on hands, or fussiness.
- Ensure a Proper Latch: Baby’s mouth should cover most of the areola, not just the nipple. A good latch means more milk and less pain.
- Offer Both Breasts: Each feed should ideally involve both breasts — the first provides watery foremilk, the second offers calorie-rich hindmilk.
- Comfort Matters: Find a position that works for both of you — whether seated or lying down, comfort supports consistency.
- Stay Nourished: Eat balanced meals and drink plenty of water to support your milk supply and overall health.
- Avoid Early Pacifiers/Bottles: Delay introducing these until breastfeeding is well established (around 3 to 4 weeks, if possible).
- Seek Help: If you experience nipple pain, low milk supply, or latching issues, consult a lactation specialist. Support makes a big difference.
Emotional Support and Recovery
Postpartum emotions can range from joy to exhaustion. Some women experience mood swings or sadness in the days after birth — often referred to as the "baby blues." However, if you feel persistently overwhelmed, anxious, or detached, don’t ignore it. Speak to your doctor or counselor. Mental wellness is just as important as physical recovery.
